A Morning at the Gathering Place

posted by: Tricia Whitaker in Community

Part of our purpose at Generator is to build community. One way we do this is by setting aside money and time throughout the year to serve people and organizations in our city. Last Wednesday the Generator team arrived bright and early to prepare breakfast for the women and families of The Gathering Place. We flipped pancakes, sizzled sausages, and assembled sack lunches for the bright smiles that walked through the doors.

The Gathering Place is Denver’s only daytime drop-in center for women, children, and transgender individuals who are experiencing poverty or homelessness. They offer services ranging from something as simple as a hot meal to offering career classes.

“We are a community of safety and hope where positive relationships, choice, and essential resources transform lives.”

Mission of The Gathering Place

The Gathering Place does this through providing a hub for all the services one might need to get back on their feet. These services can be as small as a place to make a local phone call, receive mail, or do laundry. Details like these show you how much can be overlooked in a traditional shelter environment. The Gathering Place also addresses the larger picture by offering free mental and physical wellness services along with resume¢ building sessions which help address larger issues that may contribute to homelessness and poverty. The center is powered by an incredible amount of hardworking employees and volunteers. We worked side by side with employees Jason and Lottie, whose joyful and generous attitudes fueled our team.

The entire Generator team was touched by the amazing work that the Gathering Place is doing with such limited resources. The Gathering Place accepts donations of time, money and goods. Check out their website www.gpdenver.org to learn more about how you can help this incredible organization continue to touch lives in amazing ways.

If you have a cause that Generator can help with in our community, please send an email to info@thinkgenerator.com and learn more here.
