Intrigue, A New Sunnyside Spot for Clothing and More

Intrigue is a charming boutique located at 2436 W. 44th Avenue in the Cobbler’s Corner Center.  Red brick walls and twinkly lights invite you to explore what’s inside. The owners, Amanda Larimer and Jill Newton, have known each other since college.  While they both have teaching backgrounds, they realized that what they really loved doing was shopping and styling.  The women decided to spend some time immersing themselves in retail, with the eventual goal of opening their own shop.

Intrigue opened in December of 2015 and features women’s clothing and accessories, as well as some home goods, jewelry and original artwork.  Jill and Amanda attend trade shows in Los Angeles a couple of times a year to research trends and purchase some of the clothing for their store.  Most of their jewelry, artwork and home décor items are locally sourced, and they are very open to acquiring additional local vendors.

Both women are thrilled with their decision to locate in Sunnyside.  Jill shared that they have received lots of positive feedback from the neighborhood and are beginning to establish a loyal base of returning customers.  When I asked Amanda to talk about what was most gratifying about opening her own business, she stated that the high point is “simply seeing your ideas come to life…working hard to develop your ideas, and then being able to watch that vision unfold.”

Warm weather plans include opening up the “garage door” in the back of the shop to spill out onto the Cobbler’s Corner courtyard.  Jill and Amanda also hope to operate some pop-up shops there this summer, in partnership with local vendors.
