The Gathering Place
As we welcome spring, it’s a great time to remember the services in our community that support our neighbors. Generator has been proud to support The Gathering Place for the last few years. After a chilly morning cooking and serving breakfast to the clients there we wanted to highlight the expansive and valuable services The Gathering Place offers our neighbors.
The Gathering Place or TGP was founded in 1986 and is the only daytime drop-in center in metropolitan Denver that serves women, their children, and transgender individuals who are experiencing poverty and/or homelessness. TGP’s overarching goals are to meet basic needs, foster personal growth, and build a community support system that is often lacking in the lives of those who come seeking assistance.
The services offered are expansive and range from just a safe place to stay during the day, to job readiness support and housing assistance. They host a food and diaper pantry as well as a closet of donations for clients with seasonal and career clothing needs.
One way that TGP builds community is through their card project. Client artists are able to sell their artwork as greeting cards both at the center and in several Denver retailers. The artist receives $2.25 from the purchase of the card but also the community recognition. If you are interested in purchasing artwork check out their online shop, Art Restart, here.
Generator chose to support TGP by giving our time. Their meal program is always looking for sponsorships and is a great way to be a volunteer just for a day. If you are able to give your time regularly, the center is run mainly by volunteers and you can find opportunities on their website at TheGatheringPlace.com.
