SUNNYSIDE NEIGHBORHOOD IN NW DENVER THRIVING AMID SUCCESS OF HIGHLAND

During the recession of the late 1980s, it would be hard to find an area that was hit harder than the Sunnyside neighborhood in northwest Denver.

Property values fell, crime went up and the neighborhood was becoming an undesirable place to live.

“By late 80s and early 90s, it had really become such that people advised potential home buyers not to look at houses east of Federal,” lifetime resident Janice Stice said.

But thanks to the formation of the Sunnyside United Neighbors, Inc., a good partnership with the police and the explosion of the Highland neighborhood, Sunnyside is now thriving and becoming a destination for families…
