Denver Approves New Program for Landlords
Denver City Council has approved a new program that requires licensing for all landlords. The purpose of the program is to establish new renter protections and to better understand the number of rentals in the city. The bill was introduced by City Council President Stacie Gilmore who said that its focus is tenant’s rights. Other cities with similar programs include Portland, Seattle and Boulder.
The bill requires all Denver landlords to register for a license that would be renewed every 4 years. To obtain a license, landlords are required to have each property inspected and to pass minimum housing standards. The specific licensing requirements and fees vary depending on the number of units.
