Get Your Cheese On at Sunnyside’s New Cheese + Provisions
Cheese + Provisions is a welcome addition to the Sunnyside neighborhood. Owners Steve and Kim Duty have been a part of the food and beverage industry for many years. Steve has been a chef and winemaker, and the couple also owned and operated a sheep farm/dairy, before deciding they’d prefer to be behind a counter selling cheese rather than raising the sheep and producing the cheese themselves. They are delighted with their decision to locate in Sunnyside, love getting to know their neighbors, and feel that they are filling a needed niche in the area.
Cheese + Provisions is located at 2432 W. 44th Avenue in the Cobbler’s Corner center. The shop is a warm, inviting feast for the senses. It is primarily a cheese shop, with a huge and ever-changing assortment of cheeses. Kim and Steve source their cheese from many places, often directly from small, artisan cheese makers. In addition, Cheese + Provisions features fresh bread and a highly curated selection of other artisan products, such as dried pastas, chocolate, vinegars, salumi and wine.
Steve and Kim are passionate about creating a vibrant community gathering place and neighborhood shop. Education is very important to them. Cheese + Provisions offers classes about cheese in general, such as Cheese 101, as well as classes about pairings, such and wine-cheese, chocolate-cheese, and beer-cheese. Steve said the classes are quite popular and have always sold out.
When Steve was asked if there had been any surprises about opening their new business, he told an interesting story. He felt that they were well prepared to open their business and that they are meeting or exceeding their projections at this time. Kim and Steve were recently honored at the Governor’s Mansion, receiving the 2015 “Best New Business” Business Plan Award. Steve feels that the hard work they put into their business plan is really paying off now. As Steve says, “We’re so thankful that the community has welcomed us with open arms and we’re equally thankful that we located where we did.”
We’re pretty glad, as well!
